Please find below some information below on upcoming events and some of the latest volunteering opportunities that are looking for your help and support.  If you wish to find out more about any of these opportunities then please get in touch with us on the contact details below.

 

Washington Riding Centre (Tyne and Wear RDA) provide riding lessons for people with disabilities, including children. Volunteers are required for the roles of:

 

Horse Partner - Volunteers aged 14 + years are required to assist with lessons by grooming horses, tacking them up and leading or side walking in the lesson.  Volunteers must be sensible, practical, sensitive and patient.  Some experience of handling horses would be an advantage.

 

Yard Helper - Do you have a passion for horses? Volunteers aged 14+ years are needed to assist the staff in the care of the horses, including mucking out the stables, grooming and tacking up for lessons.

Kidney Research UK aims to fund research into the causes, treatment and prevention of kidney disease. Kidney Research UK requires volunteers for the role of:

 

Football Match Bucket Collectors - If you can spare a couple of hours on New Year’s Eve, Kidney Research UK would like to hear from you. Volunteers aged 18+ years are required to help make the most of the fantastic opportunity to collect at Sunderland Stadium of Light for the Sunderland versus Manchester City game on Saturday 31st December 2011.

 

Volunteers must be friendly, outgoing and approachable. No previous experience is required.

 

  Kidney Research UK - Funding research to save lives

City of Sunderland Council Sport & Leisure’s overall aim is to increase the numbers participating in sport and physical activity in the City. This includes the numbers of volunteers, coaches, players, participants etc. Volunteer are required for the role of:

 

 

Aquatic Champion Volunteers

 

Female volunteers aged 16+ years are needed to become ‘Aquatic Champion Volunteers’ to support a new women’s swimming network and lead their own sessions in the local pool to promote the uptake of swimming. The champions will act as greeter and motivational buddy to women wishing to take up swimming but who have found barriers.

 

Volunteers will need good communication skills, enthusiasm and a helpful attitude. Experience in a mentoring role is desirable but not essential as full training is available. Swimming ability will be an advantage but is not essential.

Sunderland Community Furniture Service is a charity that provides services to the public including elderly and vulnerable people. The charity requires:

 

Drivers & Drivers Mates

 

Volunteers aged 18 + years are required to drive a Luton van collecting and delivering furniture and household goods or collecting materials for recycling.

Volunteers are also required to assist the drivers and to provide assistance with map reading etc.

Citizens Advice Sunderland aims to provide information and advice for the public. The service requires:

 

Telephone Support Volunteers

 

Volunteers aged 18+ years are required to provide telephone support in helping to assess client problems using sensitive listening and questioning skills and where appropriate making appointment, referrals or signposting clients depending on their needs. A full induction and role specific training will be provided.
