Living in a community that’s stronger, safer, more together. Isn’t that something we all wish for – but feel powerless to do anything about? Well now you can!

Young people have a major influence on the way our communities are now and how they will be in the future. That’s why Sunderland City Council are running a major Community Transformation Programme that focuses on enabling young people, particularly those that currently feel disaffected and alienated, to radically change their attitudes and beliefs and the way they see and live their lives and become valuable members of their community. Contributing to it rather than detracting from it and making it a better place to live, work and play.

So far from being powerless you have the opportunity to be a real force for change by volunteering to become a Performance Coach and playing a fundamental role in making a real difference to the lives of young people and the wellbeing of your community.

We are currently recruiting volunteers for all our Programmes.  There are a number of roles available from Project Support and administration through to working with the young people. To book your place at one of the open nights and to find out more about the opportunities available

NE Sport CIC provide high quality sports coaching to children of any age or ability to enjoy a wide range of sports, games and activities resulting in better quality health and social well being.

They are currently looking for Female Sports Coach volunteers to help with the coaching of children’s sports within schools and local community settings. Volunteers must hold at least level one coaching certificate in a recognised sport and be flexible with the use of transport, although in some instances transport will be available.

Volunteers need the ability to thrive in a team environment and have good organisation skills. Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate with children are essential.

Volunteers should also possess customer service experience working with a wide range of customers. Experience of coaching children is required and an enhanced CRB check will be undertaken.

Race for Life

Cancer Research are holding their ‘Race for Life’ fundraising events again this year and are looking for volunteers to help out in various roles throughout the days.

There are four events taking place;

  • Sunday May 16th at Saltwell Park, Gateshead,
  • Sunday 23rd May at Herrington Country Park, Sunderland,
  • Sunday 4th July at Aykley Heads Sport Centre
  • Sunday 11th July at Exhibition Park in Newcastle.

Volunteers are required to help set up the event, meet and greet participants and spectators, help with admin, act as marshals and then help clear up at the end of the day. Events take approximately 4 hours, but as two races are taking place on the 11th July in Newcastle (10.30am & 2.30pm), any additional time given would be greatly appreciated. Volunteers should be aged 16+ and require good interpersonal skills, enthusiasm, some admin experience and the ability to act as part of team.

Cruelty to children must stop. FULL STOP. NSPCC The NSPCC is inspired by a belief that they can make a difference for all children – by standing up for their rights, by listening to them, by helping them when they need it and by making them safe. Their vision is ending cruelty to children in the UK. They believe cruelty is preventable and that through having an inspirational vision they will achieve much greater success for children. Just one hour of your time could help raise vital funds for the NSPCC to provide services such as ChildLine, where it costs £4 to answer a call from a worried child and 1/3 calls go unanswered.

During 2010, the NSPCC are holding collections at various stores throughout the area and we need volunteers to help us out.  Volunteers are needed to help in Sunderland or Washington at a B & Q store on the 24th , 25th  April, 5th  & 6th  June, 28th  & 29th  August and 27th  & 28th  November?

These are all Saturdays and Sundays. You should be bright, cheerful, trustworthy and reliable and able to give between 2 and 4 hours of your time.

            Bridge logo

Bridge offers a varied programme of educational and support opportunities to enable women to reach their full potential.

They are currently looking for someone with webpage design skills who will work with the administrator to develop a new and dynamic website for our project, and assist in the updating and maintenance of the same.

We are looking to start this from scratch, so this is a great forum to highlight your skills and knowledge.

The Volunteer Centre requires volunteers to support their befriending service across the city including Washington, Houghton and Hetton. As a befriender volunteers are required to visit older and disabled people in their own homes for a few hours each week giving them companionship and if required escorting them on shopping trips, walks etc. No previous experience is required but volunteers need to be aged 18 plus, friendly, reliable and kind.  This would be a good experience for anyone thinking of going into a caring profession with a few hours to spare each week.  All out of pocket expenses will be reimbursed.

Volunteer Centre Sunderland, 4 Toward Road, Sunderland, Tyne and Wear, SR1 2QF.
