Please find below some information on upcoming events and some of the latest volunteering opportunities that are looking for your help and support.  If you wish to find out more about any of these opportunities then please get in touch with us on the contact details below.

                              

 

 

 

                         Are you caring and supportive?

                            Enjoy working with people?

                   Then why not become a volunteer mentor!

 

  Volunteers aged 18+ are required to act as mentors

  to people who would like to volunteer themselves

 but have issues around anxiety, confidence,

 languages, disability etc that may prevent them

 from  volunteering independently. Volunteers need  

  to be confident communicators with good listening

  skills, be non-judgmental and tolerant, display a

  willingness to learn and be able to motivate others

  to reach their full potential. Volunteers will need to

  undergo training and a CRB disclosure and work

  within clearly defined boundaries. All expenses will

                                                                             be reimbursed.

volunteering and what opportunities are available throughout Sunderland!

 Tuesday 10th April 2012

 1.30pm - 3.30pm

Venue: Houghton Sports Centre, Station Road, Houghton-le-Spring, DH4 5AH.

The event will be attended by a selection of local voluntary and community sector organisations who will be able to provide you with information on their

volunteering opportunities. 

Those attending will also have the chance to chat with staff from the Volunteer Centre who will be able to help you with any questions you have around volunteering.

The event is free to all, with no booking necessary.

 

Art Anglez is a non-profit organisation for poverty stricken children and families living in Sunderland. They use culture - the arts - to unify, educate and empower disadvantaged communities.

A Volunteer Project Assistant is required:

Volunteers are required to carry out planning and admin duties that will include:-

         Writing grant and sponsorship proposals

         Making phone calls to Schools and local businesses

         Helping with planning and Project/Event management.

  Volunteers need: Good interpersonal and communication skills and a knowledge of Microsoft Office.


Operation Shoebox - helping our troops in Afghanistan                               

Operation Shoebox UK

This small voluntary organisation that co-ordinates the sending of "Care Parcels" to Military Personnel serving abroad. A parcel from home is a huge morale boost to someone far away, those few luxuries really do make a difference.

Can you help with sending "Care Parcels" to Military Personnel by collecting in boxes from donors, checking contents, weighing, packing, sealing and despatching to given addressees with customs labels etc, via BFPO (local Post Office).

No particular skills, be must be vigilant, honest, outgoing and like dealing with people. The ability to drive and have own transport would be advantageous.

                                            

The ChildLine Schools Service aims to:-

      Ensure children have an understanding of abuse in all its forms, including bullying, and an ability to            recognise the signs of abuse.

      Ensure children know how to protect themselves from all forms of abuse.

      Make children aware of how to get help and the sources of help (including Childline)

 ChildLine

The ChildLine Schools Service volunteers are central to the delivery of this exciting service. The volunteer role involves presenting safeguarding assemblies and interactive workshops to primary school aged children. This role provides the opportunity to work directly with groups of children and make a significant impact on their lives.

Volunteers need the ability to communicate well.

 

The Box Youth Project

Aims to provide recreational activities and informal education for young people aged from 8 to 19 in South Sunderland.

An Admin Volunteer is required:

Volunteers aged 20 and over are required to provide a reception service by answering the telephone and transferring calls / taking messages as well as greeting visitors. They will help with filing, photocopying etc. Help needed on Tuesday & Wednesday.

Volunteers should be confident in answering the telephone and greeting visitors in a friendly manner, although some training will be provided.
