ITV Fixers are having an open day!

ITV Fixers is a media campaign aimed at 16-25 year olds. It is designed to give young people the opportunity to ‘fix’ something they are passionate about in a new and creative way! We help people to make films, websites, hold events, poster campaigns..... the list is endless as long as it can make a difference and benefit at least one other person. In the past our groups have tackled issues such as, homelessness, mental health, equestrianism and healthy living.

On the 2nd September we are opening our offices to youth workers, organisations and young people to come along and get a taste of what we do!

We’ll be open between 10am and 3pm so feel free to drop in anytime. Our staff will be on hand to show people around, give an introduction to what ITV Fixers is and show off some of the projects our young people have done. Our creative resources team will be around to show some of the behind the scenes stuff from our film making, design and website projects!

Welfare Rights Training

Sunderland City Council Welfare Rights Service are providing training to Macmillian Volunteers who are based at Sunderlan dRoyal Hospital.  The ficus of the welfare benefits trainin is to advise clients who are diagnosed with cancr although inforamtion will be provided on the general benefit rules. 

We would like to invite volunteers who work within Sunderland to attend this free training.  It could be that volunteers are interested in attending some but not all the modules.

New Career for volunteer Paul

After a recent redundancy situation with my previous employer, I decided to embark on a new career path. The path I chose to embark upon was Youth work. This led me to a volunteering event at a local church hall where several volunteering organisations were on hand to give advice about the different avenues open to volunteers. One particular group caught my attention, the Oblivion Youth Project.

Miss Donna Knight was the ambassador for the group at the event, with the job of recruiting volunteers for Oblivion. After a very informal chat to Donna about the benefits of volunteering and the possibility of gaining employment and training through this avenue I decided to enrol as a volunteer.

Having been at the project for almost a year now, Donna has been on hand to help guide me through the multitude of training options available to me. This has materialised into having successfully completed ‘The Introduction to Youth Work Course’, and Brief Interventions Alcohol Awareness level 2, not to mention the many non accredited courses I have attended. Ultimately this has led me to having been successfully employed through the Future Jobs Fund for six months which will hopefully lead me into full time employment in my chosen field.

I would like to Thank Donna for all her help and support throughout the last year.
